My Comments:
Well, ever since I first got into anime I always liked Naoko's artwork, especially Sailor Moon. But after doing the Sailor Saturn princess dress, I didn't really want to do another Sailor Moon costume considering that you see at least 5 per convention. One day I came across some PQ Angels manga online and from there I decided I had to do one of these characters that seemed so rare at conventions. I know I was one of the first, I had only seen 1 other Q-ko before me and she was wearing the green outfit instead of the white. Besides, this was an excuse to get those wicked cool thigh high vinyl boots with the 5" heels I always wanted but never had a reason to buy! I made the costume out of white poplin. *Note: If you ever need something that holds pleats well, poplin is a great thing to buy.* Unfortunately, there are no skirt patterns that pleat quite like Q-ko's (from the center out instead of from the sides) or that have slits that lace up the sides to the waistband so I created one. I also created the pattern for the collar. I hemmed the skirt from the waistband up so that I kept the selvege edge of the fabric on the bottom instead of hemming from the bottom up. For the sides, I used thin satin ribbon laced through holes in the side pleats of the skirt; which I created with a hole punch and a lot of fray check. (Hey, whatever works right? ^^;;) The sports bra and arm bands were purchased, sadly I couldn't find one of the toy bubble guns. I also couldn't find a green wig, but I figured it didn't much matter since in some pictures Kyuuri's hair looks blonde. Some people at the con recognized me right away, but others gave me strange looks... specifically the people trying to have a wedding reception downstairs in the lobby of the hotel below the con. (Heehee, imagine that... the hotel hosting a wedding reception and Anime Fest at the same time... funny... very very funny.. heh)
